Description
Trihydroxystearin is a waxy, oil-loving ingredient made from hydrogenated castor oil. In formulas, it works mainly as an oil gelling agent and texture builder, helping liquids turn into balms, sticks, gels, or richer creams. It can thicken not only plant oils and esters, but also some silicone-based systems, which makes it useful in makeup, lip products, sunscreens, and hair styling formulas.
For skin, Trihydroxystearin doesn’t act like a treatment ingredient on its own; instead, it improves how a product feels and performs. It can make formulas glide more smoothly, feel less greasy, and stay more stable over time. In hair products, it may help create a more structured, waxy hold or a smoother application. People who like balm textures, long-wear makeup, or richer anhydrous products may especially appreciate it.
Caveat: because it is a texture ingredient rather than an active, it won’t hydrate, exfoliate, or brighten by itself. Very rich or waxy formulas may feel heavy on some skin types, especially if you prefer lightweight finishes.
