In formulas, it can help neutralize odor, lift away surface buildup, and support a cleaner-feeling finish on skin or hair.
People who like a more “fresh and squeaky-clean” feel may appreciate it, especially in body care or occasional exfoliating products. That said, sodium bicarbonate can be a bit much for some skin types. Because it is alkaline, it may feel drying or irritating on sensitive, very dry, or barrier-compromised skin, especially if used often or in leave-on products. It’s generally better suited to rinse-off formulas and to areas where odor control or gentle polishing is the goal.
