Descripción
Sodium Bicarbonate is the cosmetic name for baking soda, a simple mineral salt that’s used in some skincare and haircare products. It works mainly as a pH adjuster, deodorizing agent, and mild abrasive, so you’ll often see it in cleansers, scrubs, toothpaste, bath products, and some dry shampoos or deodorants. In formulas, it can help neutralize odor, lift away surface buildup, and support a cleaner-feeling finish on skin or hair.
People who like a more “fresh and squeaky-clean” feel may appreciate it, especially in body care or occasional exfoliating products. That said, sodium bicarbonate can be a bit much for some skin types. Because it is alkaline, it may feel drying or irritating on sensitive, very dry, or barrier-compromised skin, especially if used often or in leave-on products. It’s generally better suited to rinse-off formulas and to areas where odor control or gentle polishing is the goal.
For hair, it can help remove residue in some cleansing products, but it’s not usually ideal for frequent use on color-treated, curly, or fragile hair, since it may leave strands feeling rough. As with any ingredient, the overall formula matters a lot: concentration, pH, and how the product is used all affect how it feels on skin and hair.
