Anhydroxylitol is a sugar-derived skincare ingredient best known as part of the moisturizing trio called Aquaxyl, alongside xylitylglucoside and xylitol. It’s made from plant sugars and is used to help support the skin’s water balance. In formulas, it acts like a humectant-support ingredient: it helps improve how well skin holds onto moisture and can make a product feel more hydrating and comfortable.
For skin, anhydroxylitol is especially useful in moisturizers, serums, and hydrating toners aimed at dryness, dehydration, or a tight, rough feel. It’s often appreciated by people who want lightweight hydration without a heavy or greasy finish. In hair care, it may help support softness and reduce the dry, brittle feel that comes from lack of moisture. Because it works as part of a system rather than a dramatic standalone active, you’ll usually see it paired with other humectants and emollients for best results.
