Description
CI 77289 is a mineral pigment used in cosmetics to add color, especially blue-green, teal, and muted earthy tones. It’s an inorganic pigment based on chromium oxide chemistry, and in its hydrated form it can appear as a softer greenish shade. You’ll usually find it in makeup products rather than skincare, where its main job is to provide stable, opaque color and help formulas look consistent from batch to batch.
For skin and hair products, CI 77289 doesn’t treat or condition on its own, but it can be useful in tinted creams, eyeshadows, eyeliners, mascaras, and some hair color products because it resists fading and holds up well in light and heat. People who like long-wearing, highly pigmented formulas may appreciate it, especially when a cool-toned green or blue-green effect is desired.
Caveat: this ingredient is not permitted in lip products in the US, so you won’t see it in lipsticks or glosses sold there. As with many pigments, it’s generally used in very small amounts and is mainly a colorant rather than an active skincare ingredient.
