Descripción
Acetic Acid is the same simple organic acid best known as the main acid in vinegar. In cosmetics, it’s usually used in very small amounts to adjust and stabilize a formula’s pH, which helps the product stay effective and comfortable to use. It can also support the performance of other ingredients by keeping the formula in the right acidic range.
For skin and hair, acetic acid is not typically a “treatment” ingredient on its own, but its pH-balancing role can matter a lot. Hair products may use it to help smooth the cuticle and improve the feel of the hair, while skincare formulas may include it to maintain an acid-friendly environment that suits the skin’s natural surface. People who like straightforward, well-formulated products may benefit most from it.
Caveat: in higher concentrations, acetic acid can be irritating, stinging, or drying, especially on sensitive or compromised skin. That’s why it’s generally used sparingly in cosmetics. In properly formulated products, it’s usually there for function rather than as a standout active, so its effects are more about formula balance than dramatic skin changes.
