Descripción
Maltose is a naturally occurring sugar made of two glucose units. In cosmetics, it’s used mainly as a humectant and skin-conditioning ingredient, meaning it helps attract and hold water in the formula and on the skin’s surface. You’ll often see it in moisturizers, serums, masks, and some hair products, where it can support a softer, smoother feel and help formulas stay pleasantly hydrated.
For skin, maltose can be a nice supporting ingredient if you’re looking for lightweight moisture and a more comfortable, less tight feel after cleansing. In hair care, it may help improve slip and softness, making strands feel less dry or rough. It’s especially appealing in products aimed at dry, dehydrated, or easily irritated-feeling skin, though it’s not a heavy-duty occlusive or a replacement for richer moisturizers.
Caveats: maltose is generally considered a low-drama ingredient, but as with any cosmetic ingredient, individual sensitivity is possible. It’s also not a star treatment ingredient for concerns like acne, pigmentation, or wrinkles; think of it more as a supportive hydrator and texture helper. If you prefer very simple formulas or are avoiding sugars for personal reasons, you may still want to check the full ingredient list.
