Cetrimonium Chloride is a quaternary ammonium compound used mainly in hair care and, less often, in skin products. In formulas, it acts as a conditioning agent and antistatic ingredient, helping reduce friction and improve slip. On hair, that usually means easier detangling, less flyaway static, and a softer, smoother feel. It’s especially common in conditioners, leave-ins, and rinse-off treatments designed for dry, coarse, or easily tangled hair.
For skin, cetrimonium chloride is not a star moisturizing ingredient, but it can help formulas spread more evenly and feel less tacky. People with textured, damaged, color-treated, or chemically processed hair may notice the biggest benefit because the ingredient helps the hair surface feel more manageable. It’s generally used at low levels, but like many conditioning agents, it may be irritating for very sensitive skin or if left on in higher amounts than intended.
