Plankton Extract is a broad cosmetic term for extracts made from microscopic marine or freshwater organisms, often rich in sugars, amino acids, minerals, and other bioactive compounds. In skincare, it’s usually included as a conditioning and support ingredient rather than a dramatic “active.” Depending on the source and formula, it may help skin feel more hydrated, look smoother, and appear a bit more refreshed by supporting the skin’s surface and moisture balance.
For hair, plankton extract is sometimes used in shampoos, conditioners, and scalp products to add a lightweight conditioning feel and help hair look softer and more manageable.
