Descripción
Hydrated Silica is a finely milled, porous form of silicon dioxide used in cosmetics as a texture and oil-control ingredient. It’s valued for its ability to absorb excess moisture and sebum, which can help products feel less greasy and more velvety on the skin. In formulas, it also acts as a gentle thickener, anti-caking agent, and sometimes a mild abrasive, depending on the product type.
For skin, hydrated silica is common in primers, powders, sunscreens, and mattifying lotions because it can blur the look of shine and improve slip without adding heaviness. In hair products, it may help reduce a limp or oily feel by boosting a dry, soft-touch finish. People with oily or combination skin often appreciate it most, especially in makeup or daytime skincare where a matte finish is desired.
Caveat: because it can be drying or feel powdery in some formulas, it may not be ideal for very dry or easily irritated skin if used in high amounts. In exfoliating products, the particle size and formula matter a lot, since a rough texture can feel too abrasive for some users. As always, the overall formula matters more than the ingredient alone.
