Description

Glutathione is a naturally occurring antioxidant made from three amino acids, and it shows up in skincare mostly as a brightening and protective ingredient. In formulas, it helps neutralize free radicals from UV exposure and pollution, which can support a more even-looking complexion over time. It’s often included in products aimed at dullness, uneven tone, and post-blemish marks, and some hair and scalp products use it for its antioxidant support as well.

For skin, glutathione is best known for helping skin look brighter and less tired, rather than delivering dramatic overnight changes. People with uneven tone, environmental stress, or a preference for antioxidant-focused routines may appreciate it. In hair care, it’s more of a supporting ingredient than a headline treatment, often used to help protect the scalp and strands from oxidative stress.

Caveat: results depend a lot on the formula, concentration, and how consistently you use it. Glutathione is generally well-tolerated in cosmetic products, but any ingredient can be irritating for some people, especially in leave-on formulas with multiple actives. It works best as part of a broader routine that includes sunscreen and other well-formulated basics.
