Capryloyl Salicylic Acid

Capryloyl Salicylic Acid is a salicylic-acid derivative often used in exfoliating and clarifying skincare. You may also see it called LHA (lipohydroxy acid). Compared with classic salicylic acid, it is more oil-loving and tends to work more slowly and selectively on the skin’s surface, which is why it’s popular in formulas aimed at congestion, rough texture, and visible pores.

For skin, it helps loosen dead cells, smooth uneven texture, and keep pores from looking clogged, making it a good fit for oily, combination, and blemish-prone skin. It can also be useful in anti-aging or resurfacing products when the goal is a more refined, polished look. In hair care, it is less common, but when included it may support scalp exfoliation and help reduce buildup. Because it is an exfoliant, sensitive or easily irritated skin may find it drying or tingly, especially if used alongside other acids or retinoids. As always, patch testing and gradual use are smart ideas.
