Aroma is a broad cosmetic term for the scent component in a formula. It may come from a blend of fragrance materials, essential oils, or aroma compounds added to give a product a pleasant smell and shape the overall sensory experience. In skincare and haircare, aroma does not usually provide a direct treatment benefit to skin or hair itself, but it can make a routine feel more enjoyable, mask less pleasant raw-material odors, and influence how a product is perceived.
People who like fragranced products often appreciate aroma for the mood and ritual factor, especially in cleansers, lotions, shampoos, and conditioners. That said, fragrance is one of the more common triggers for sensitivity in cosmetic products, particularly for very reactive, dry, or compromised skin. If you know you are fragrance-sensitive, choosing fragrance-free formulas is usually the safer bet. For everyone else, aroma is mainly about experience rather than performance.
