Aminomethyl Propanol is a small, water-soluble amine used in cosmetics mainly as a pH adjuster and neutralizing agent. In simple terms, it helps bring a formula into the right acidity range so the product stays stable, feels pleasant, and works as intended. You’ll often find it in gels, lotions, serums, and styling products, especially formulas that need thickening or a specific texture.
For skin and hair, its role is indirect but important: by helping a product sit at the right pH, it can support the performance of ingredients like carbomers, preservatives, and some active ingredients. That means smoother gels, better spreadability, and more consistent results from the formula. People who use lightweight skincare or hair products may benefit from it simply because it helps those products keep their intended texture and performance.
Caveat: Aminomethyl Propanol is not an active treatment ingredient, and it is usually present in very small amounts.
