Maris Sal is simply sea salt, a naturally occurring mineral blend harvested from seawater and dried. In cosmetics, it’s used for its texture and mineral content, and it can show up in scrubs, bath products, scalp treatments, and some hair formulas. Depending on the product, it may help create a more “grippy” feel, add body to hair, or contribute to a fresh, clean sensory experience.
For skin, Maris Sal is most often valued as a gentle physical exfoliant in rinse-off products, helping lift away surface flakes and leave skin feeling smoother. For hair, it’s commonly used in beach-spray style products to add separation, volume, and a matte, tousled finish. People with oily skin or hair, or those who like textured, low-shine styling, may especially enjoy it.
