Cannabis Sativa Seed Oil is a plant-derived oil pressed from hemp seeds, not the leaves or flowers of the cannabis plant. It’s valued in skincare for its lightweight feel and balanced mix of fatty acids, especially linoleic and alpha-linolenic acid. On skin, it helps soften roughness, support the moisture barrier, and reduce that tight, dry feeling without leaving a heavy, greasy finish. In hair products, it can add slip, shine, and a smoother look to dry or frizzy strands.
This ingredient is a good fit for many skin types, especially normal to dry skin and skin that feels dehydrated or easily irritated by heavier oils. Because it absorbs fairly well, it’s often used in facial oils, moisturizers, cleansers, and scalp or hair treatments. People with oily or combination skin may also like it if they want hydration without a thick residue.
Caveat: while hemp seed oil is generally well tolerated, any botanical oil can occasionally cause sensitivity or breakouts in some people. It’s also worth noting that it does not contain CBD in meaningful amounts unless the formula specifically adds it. As always, the overall formula matters more than the ingredient alone.
