Descriptif
Laureth-7 is a synthetic ingredient made by attaching about seven units of ethylene oxide to lauryl alcohol, a fatty alcohol that can be derived from coconut or palm sources. In formulas, it mainly acts as a surfactant and emulsifier, meaning it helps oil and water mix and stay mixed. You’ll also see it used as a solubilizer, helping fragrance, oils, or other hard-to-blend ingredients disperse evenly in a product.
For skin and hair, Laureth-7 is mostly a behind-the-scenes helper rather than an active treatment ingredient. It can improve the texture, spreadability, and rinse-off feel of cleansers, shampoos, conditioners, lotions, and makeup removers. People who like products that feel smoother and more stable may benefit from it indirectly, since it helps formulas perform consistently.
Caveat: because it is a surfactant, it can be more irritating in very high amounts or in products designed to cleanse aggressively, especially for very sensitive or easily stripped skin. In well-formulated products, though, it’s generally used for function rather than as a standout ingredient, and it’s usually present at levels that support the formula without being the main event.
