Descriptif
Disodium Cocoyl Glutamate is a mild cleansing ingredient made from coconut-derived fatty acids and glutamic acid, an amino acid. It belongs to the family of surfactants, which means it helps water mix with oil and dirt so they can be rinsed away. In skincare and haircare, you’ll often find it in gentle face washes, body cleansers, shampoos, and micellar-style formulas because it cleans without feeling as harsh as some stronger detergents.
For skin, it can leave a softer, less stripped feel after cleansing, which makes it appealing in products aimed at normal, dry, or easily irritated-feeling skin. For hair, it helps remove buildup while keeping the wash experience relatively mild, so it’s commonly used in everyday shampoos and co-washes. People who prefer low-foaming, more cushiony cleansers often like it.
Caveat: “Gentle” does not mean universally perfect. Very sensitive users can still react to any cleanser, especially if the formula also contains fragrance or other active ingredients. And because it is a cleanser, it’s meant to be rinsed off rather than left on the skin.
