It’s made by combining methyl glucose with fatty acids and then modifying it with PEG to help it mix smoothly into formulas. In skincare and haircare, it mainly acts as a thickener, solubilizer, and texture enhancer, helping products feel richer, more cushioned, and less harsh.
For skin and hair, its biggest benefit is improving the feel of cleansing products. It can make surfactant-based formulas foam more pleasantly and rinse with less squeaky dryness, which is why it’s often found in gentle face washes, sulfate-free shampoos, and body cleansers.
