Description
PEG-120 Methyl Glucose Dioleate is a plant-derived, water-soluble ingredient used mostly in cleansers, shampoos, and body washes. It’s made by combining methyl glucose with fatty acids and then modifying it with PEG to help it mix smoothly into formulas. In skincare and haircare, it mainly acts as a thickener, solubilizer, and texture enhancer, helping products feel richer, more cushioned, and less harsh.
For skin and hair, its biggest benefit is improving the feel of cleansing products. It can make surfactant-based formulas foam more pleasantly and rinse with less squeaky dryness, which is why it’s often found in gentle face washes, sulfate-free shampoos, and body cleansers. People with dry, sensitive, or curly hair often appreciate formulas that include it because they tend to feel milder and more conditioning than very stripped-down cleansers.
Caveat: PEG-120 Methyl Glucose Dioleate is not a treatment ingredient, so it won’t hydrate deeply or repair damage on its own. It’s also mainly useful in rinse-off products rather than leave-on skincare. As with any cosmetic ingredient, individual tolerance varies, and the overall formula matters more than this ingredient alone.
