Description
CI 77742 is the color additive known as manganese violet, an inorganic pigment used to give cosmetics a soft purple, lilac, or violet tint. Because it is a pigment rather than an active skincare ingredient, its main job is visual: it adds color, adjusts tone, and helps create shades in products like eyeshadows, blushes, lip products, nail color, and some hair cosmetics.
For skin and hair products, CI 77742 can help make formulas look more polished and appealing, and in makeup it may also be used to neutralize overly warm or yellow tones. People who enjoy colorful makeup, pastel shades, or cool-toned finishes may especially notice its effect. It does not moisturize, exfoliate, or treat the skin, so its value is mostly cosmetic rather than functional.
Caveat: as with any pigment, it may not suit everyone in every formula. In leave-on products, those with very sensitive eyes or skin may prefer to patch test if they know they react to colored cosmetics. The exact feel and performance depend on the full formula, not the pigment alone.
